This book is a collection of Liberian names comprising percentages of at least 60% of the names in each of the ethnic division selected: Bandi, Bassa, Dei, Gio, Gola, Grebo, Kissi, Kpelleh, Krahn, Kru, Kuwahbelleh, Loma, Mandingo, Mano, Mended, Sarpo, Vai, Yard Names (also called pet-names or nicknames). We do not, could not, and are never likely to ever catalog 100% of the names of all seventeen ethnic groups.

There are likely names, even popular ones, which were left out by us due to any of several reasons: (a) We forgot; (b) We could not get a clear definition; (c) It slipped through the cracks as we collated data from numerous locations; (d) We simply did not come across it. Our focus this time is not on culture as a whole. But we felt it prudent to mention a few topics. The matter of names is after all wrapped in culture.
